FCPS Part 1 syllabus

Two papers on the same day, 100 one-best-of-five MCQs each, three hours per paper, and a 70% pass line. Paper I is identical for every specialty; Paper II follows the specialty you apply in. Always confirm details against the current CPSP prospectus at cpsp.edu.pk.

Paper I — basic sciences, common to all

Anatomy

≈ 40–50% of Paper I

Gross anatomy, histology, embryology, neuroanatomy, head & neck, thorax, abdomen and pelvis. Histology and embryology carry disproportionate weight — image-based questions are common.

Physiology

core

Cell, CVS, respiratory, renal, GIT, endocrine and neurophysiology at Guyton depth.

Biochemistry

core

Metabolism, enzymes, molecular biology, nutrition — Harper's level.

Pharmacology

core

General principles, ANS, CVS, chemotherapy and CNS drugs — mechanisms over doses, Katzung level.

Pathology & Microbiology

core

General pathology (cell injury, inflammation, neoplasia), immunology and clinically relevant microbiology — Robbins and Levinson.
